What’s Doxie?
Doxie is the smart, modern paper scanner that turns paper into files you can share and archive. It's easy -- plug it in, insert your paper or photo, and press the multi-action button to scan. You'll get a PDF digital copy in seconds.
An intuitive design makes scanning easy -- Doxie loves everything from bills and receipts, to reports, drawings, love notes, and everything in-between for your home or office. Doxie integrates directly with dozens of your favorite desktop and web apps -- ready to organize all of your paper for just $129.
Why scan documents and photos?
Paper is everywhere -- rather than sorting, filing, and trying to manage paper bills, drawings, receipts, business papers, medical records, and everything else, just scan it instead and keep everything on your PC or Mac.
Doxie sends your paper documents directly to web services that let you archive and share, so you can access your paper from anywhere, collaborate with others, or simply make a digital copy to send to a friend or business associate. Industry standard PDF files can be sent to any PC, Mac, printer, or mobile device -- one file can be viewed on your Mac, sent to your iPhone or iPad, printed to any standard printer, and much more.
Doxie also scans photos in brilliant color. Doxie automatically straightens and crops your paper photos, then drops them right into iPhoto, Picasa, or Lightroom – just like a digital camera. Put in your favorite photos – Doxie keeps up with fast, stunningly crisp scanning. And Doxie can post your photos directly to Flickr and Picnik, for instant sharing and easy editing.
What can Doxie scan? What’s it work with?
Doxie scans any document or photo up to an A4/8.5x14 sheet of paper, in black and white, grayscale, or color. That’s stuff like bills, receipts, invoices, medical records, business docs, taxes, financial statements, schoolwork, sketches, reports, contracts, newspaper clippings, recipes, warranties, legal documents, letters, postcards, drawings, even love notes. If it’s paper, put it in Doxie’s slot.
Doxie creates PDF, JPEG, and PNG images of your paper, so it works with most local and web apps. Doxie can send directly to the cloud --

How do I connect Doxie to my computer?
Doxie includes a single USB cable -- it’s entirely USB powered, so that’s all you need. Doxie requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later; or Windows XP/Vista/7 (32-bit and 64-bit compatible).
How do I scan with Doxie?
Place your paper or photo face down in the paper slot -- the scanner will grab your document -- then press the heart button to scan. In a few seconds, you’ll have a digital copy ready to save or share. By holding down Doxie’s Heart Button, you can trigger different actions.
Where can I buy Doxie?
Doxie is sold exclusively online at www.getdoxie.com. Orders are processed in the order they're received -- first come, first served.
Doxie is available to ship to the United States, Canada, most of the European Union, Japan, and Australia.
Is Doxie appropriate for business use?
Absolutely! Doxie allows you to create PDF, JPEG, or lossless PNG files, and sends documents and images directly to popular web apps for instant sharing and collaboration.
How does Doxie stack up to the competition?
Ordinary document scanners have been around for decades -- as a whole, we think most products in this category are behind the times, boring, and, in general, offer a poorly designed overall user experience.
We designed Doxie from the ground up to be the best paper scanner in its class, to our standards. In other words, Doxie is the paper scanner that we (the designers at Apparent Corporation) would want to use and recommend to our friends.
Our design is simple -- a fast, easy, high quality way to scan, archive, and share your docs and photos, with no hassle. And for $129, it’s highly affordable. Plug it in, put your paper in Doxie’s slot, and you’re done.
Doxie doesn’t have a multi-page document feeder or one-pass duplex scanning. These are hardware features associated with scanners sold at a significantly higher price point. We have no plans to offer these kinds of hardware features or change Doxie’s price.
We want to offer the best paper scanner available in Doxie’s price category, to our design standards. We believe we’ve succeeded. If you, however, disagree with our design principles, a competitor's product might better suit your needs!
What the Doxie Cloud service?
Doxie’s Cloud is our free web app for sharing documents and photos online. Choose Doxie Cloud from the cloud button, and Doxie will upload your scan to our server and give you a short URL to share over e-mail, chat, or Twitter. Uploads are for sharing -- give the address to anyone you want. Uploaded scans expire after a customizable period.
Doxie’s Cloud service is provided free for all Doxie owners with no monthly fee, subject to the
Doxie Cloud Service Agreement.
You can use Doxie’s Cloud, another supported web app (like Google Docs), or skip online sharing entirely and just save a PDF or bitmap image. It’s your choice.
Why is Doxie so inexpensive?
Doxie is less expensive to make than other paper scanners; we take the savings, pass some to you, and put the rest toward creating superior cloud scanning software. A patented design makes this possible -- rather than relying on a microprocessor within the scanner itself to do the “work” of scanning and analyzing your document, Doxie’s software takes care of processing instead. As a result, Doxie is less expensive to make.
This approach is similar to a dialup modem of the past versus a modern USB modem -- old modems were expensive because you could interact with them directly as a stand-alone device. Computers got faster over time, so today’s modems are little more than an audio interface, while the “work” of being a modem is now within the computer and driver software.
Does Doxie do OCR (text recognition)?
Yes, thanks to Doxie’s apps! Doxie sends PDFs directly to popular desktop and web apps, many of which offer built-in OCR capabilities, including Google Docs, Evernote, and Acrobat. Just send to an app that does OCR for easy search and copy/paste of the text in your documents.
How do I scan long documents?
Doxie’s software makes it easy to scan documents with multiple pages – just insert each sheet, and Doxie will add them to a single document. Finish your document at any time to upload to the cloud, or start scanning a new document. You can even use Doxie’s multi-action button to control exactly what you want to do.
Do I have to share my documents online?
Not at all -- sharing your documents online, either with Doxie’s Cloud service or a third-party web app, is entirely your choice. You can use Doxie simply to save your documents as PDF files, and your photos as JPEG or PNG images, with no online sharing.
Does Doxie allow me to edit my photos?
Yes, via Picnik, the free online photo service! Just click the Picnik button to send your photo for instant editing. Picnik offers easy editing tools, cool effects, shapes, and frames. They even offer a Premium service with more content and no ads, and the ability to order custom cards, calendars, enlargements, even photo mugs!
Does Doxie support my favorite app or service?
For web-based cloud apps, Doxie supports a wide range of popular apps -- check out the list
here. We’ll continue to add new apps -- ask for what you’d like to see!
For desktop apps, Doxie can work with nearly any PC or Mac application, from photo editors to PDF viewers to document management products. Doxie sends PDF or JPEG images directly these programs, with a list of target applications you can customize. By default, Doxie sends scans to these apps by saving the file, then opening the file in that program.
If you just want to save your scans to your hard drive, Doxie does that, too -- PDF, JPEG, and lossless PNG formats.
Why does Doxie have hearts and a heart button?
Doxie loves documents. It’s cute. Doxie just isn’t the same without her hearts!
If you’d like to change Doxie's appearance, we have a limited supply of six swappable skins, including zebra, flannel, and plain black. If you'd like a free pack of Doxie skins and don't have some already, e-mail your order number to
